  16. 1..Purpose
  17.  
  18.         Allows connected stations to have a personalised CTEXT as set up
  19.         by the WinPack operator and also requests stations to add their
  20.         name, callsign and BBS details to the ADDRESS.TXT file . Can also
  21.         be configured to send a 'BANNER' style greeting as well as the 
  22.         personalised greetings . Can be set to send the WinPack operator a
  23.         alert message after each registration .

  27. 2..Installation
  28.  
  29.         Copy GREG.EXE to C:\WINPACK\  
  30.         Copy GREG.XTR to C:\WINPACK\  
  31.         Copy GREG.LNG to C:\WINPACK\
  32.         Copy GREG.BAN to C:\WINPACK\  (or whatever your WinPack directory is)
  33.         
  34.         Copy GREG.INI to C:\WINDOWS\  (or whatever your Windows directory is)
  35.         
  36.         The file GREG.INI will have to be edited to reflect your station 
  37.         setup . GREG.INI is fully commented to help you with the editing
  38.         
  39.         The file GREG.XTR will not need to be edited unless you want to stop
  40.         GREG from Autostarting along with WinPack See the WinPack help for 
  41.         how to format of .XTR files . It is best to start GREG with the XTR
  42.         file as when WinPack is shut then GREG will also close GREG.BAN can be 
  43.         edited to your own liking . 
  44.         
  45.         GREG.LNG is a text file that can be customised by you . It contains
  46.         the texts that GREG uses for registrations and greetings . Defaults
  47.         should be OK for a start till you are familiar with GREG .
  48.         
  49.         You can then amend your connect text to notify people of the 
  50.         addition of this server to your system but a better idea would be to
  51.         set CMSG to 'OFF' and let GREG take care of all the work .
  52.         
  53.         GREG will not work with versions of WinPack before v6.2 which explains 
  54.         why it was not written before .
  55.

  57. 3..In use
  58.  
  59.         GREG reacts to all connects made using WINPACK and this includes any
  60.         outgoing connects even AUTOBBS SESSIONS . Therefore it is essential to
  61.         have the correct entries in the NO_CTEXT section and to remember to
  62.         disable GREG if you are making a manual connection .
  63.  
  64.         When GREG detects that a connect has taken place it reads the file
  65.         GREG.INI to see if the station is entered in the NO_CTEXT section . If
  66.         it is then GREG is finished for this session .
  67.  
  68.         If the station connected is not in the NO-CTEXT section then GREG next
  69.         checks the greet section of the INI . If there is a personalised CTEXT 
  70.         for the station GREG will use this (including the BANNER flag)otherwise
  71.         it will use the CTEXT and BANNER setting from the defaults section .
  72.         Then GREG sees if the stations callsign is in ADDRESS.TXT and if it is 
  73.         not then the station will be requested to add their details .
  74.         
  75.         If the stations details are found in ADDRESS.TXT then GREG displays the
  76.         CALLSIGN and NAME of the connected station .        
  77.  
  78.         When the connected station enters their HOME BBS GREG will look up the 
  79.         H-Address for the BBS . This option requires that you have the SHROUTE 
  80.         addon installed (SHROUTE actually need not be installed but the BBS.LST
  81.         files that SHROUTE uses need to be there, set the path to them in the 
  82.         GREG.INI file) . UKBBS.LST is supplied with v2.05 as an example .

  84.         All commands (except move)for GREG are available by a RIGHT CLICK on 
  85.         the words 'GREG v2.05' to show the menu. Here is a summary of the 
  86.         commands .

  88.         FEATURES...brings up a submenu with the following 3 items
  89.  
  90.            GREET ADDON......Turns on and off greetings from GREG including the
  91.            BANNER file . Same as a click on the word GREET on the main screen
  92.            Checked when GREET is active .
  93.         
  94.            REG ADDON........Turns on and off requests to REGISTER your callsign
  95.            from GREG . Same as a click on the word REG on the main screen . 
  96.            CHECKED when REG is active 
  97.  
  98.            DISABLE(ENABLE) GREET and REG.....Turns REG and GREET off or on .
  99.            If one is active then it turns both OFF . If both are OFF then 
  100.            it turns both of them on . Shortcut is F11 .
  101.  
  102.         KEEP GREG ON TOP.......When checked GREG stays on top of all other 
  103.         applications (the default) .
  104.  
  105.         AUTO POSITIONING......Enables or disables GREG from attempting to move 
  106.         out of the way automatically forcing him to stay where you put him .
  107.         
  108.         OPEN INI FILE IN NOTEPAD.......Does what it says . Changes made   
  109.         to GREETINGS and the NO_CTEXT sections are applied immediately but 
  110.         changes to any other values in the INI will not take effect till GREG
  111.         is restarted or you choose APPLY NEW SETTINGS.
  112.         
  113.         OPEN LNG FILE IN NOTEPAD.......Does what it says . Changes made  
  114.         to the texts will not take effect till GREG is restarted or you choose 
  115.         APPLY NEW SETTINGS. 
  116.         
  117.         APPLY NEW SETTINGS......If you have edited GREG.INI or GREG.LNG 
  118.         then clicking this will apply the new settings immiadiately without
  119.         having to restart GREG .
  120.  
  121.         MINIMISE........Obvious !         }
  122.                                           } Double clicking GREG has the same 
  123.         MAXIMISE........Opposite of above } effect

  125.         CLOSE GREG PROGRAM.......Used to close GREG .

  127.     OTHER FEATURES

  129.         To move GREG from its default position just left click and hold the mouse 
  130.         button over where the words 'GREG v2.05' appear on the main screen . 
  131.         Moving the mouse will drag GREG along till the mouse button is released . 
  132.         It is possibly best to leave GREG in the default position unless you move 
  133.         the WinPack window about a lot .

  137. 4..About
  138.  
  139.         If you have problems then let me know and I will see if I can 
  140.         solve the problem for you . 
  141.  
  142.         An unavoidable problem is that it is not possible to differentiate
  143.         between an incoming connect and an outgoing connect on the WinPack DDE 
  144.         link . GREG will respond to both so be sure to remember to disable
  145.         GREG if you intend to make an outgoing connect manually (right click
  146.         GREG and select 'Disable GREET and REG' or press F11 which acts as a 
  147.         toggle for this feature . Correct entries in the IGNORE section 
  148.         of GREG.INI should solve this problem for AUTOBBS sessions
  149.  
  150.         The program GREG.EXE is HAMWARE (who else would need it) and there is
  151.         no charge for its use, however I would be a liar if I said that 
  152.         donations for my time were not welcome .
